Purchased this stove in Aug09.
I have had only one other stove, the Colman Peak 1.
I used this stove for 10 years +
What I liked,
Best flame control I have ever seen (Simmer). Could cook an egg over easy.
Never cleaned it.
Never Changed an O ring. Used saliva to lubricate. Never ran out of lube.
Excellent BTU.
Would never Flame out.
Quiet!!!
Cons.
The pump design was and still is the worst.
You have to plug a hole at the top of the pump handle and create a seal. Very difficult at -20degC
The hose is attached to the pump. It sticks out perpendicular to the pump.
Packing it was difficult at best , which ultimately lead to its failure.
The Crimp which fastens the hose to the pump failed.

Nova+
Used this for a month this summer 09.
All the reviews sounded great. My biggest criteria for a new stove was flame control (Simmer).
Brought it home and the first thing I did was cook an egg over easy, no problem.
I highly recommend the GSI Pinnicale cook sets which I bought at the same time. They are Fantastic.
I Noticed the pump was not very efficient. The manual recommends using silicon on the leather cup.
Silicon does not condition nor swell the leather. I applied mineral oil as I did with the peak 1. This worked great. This will prevent the cup from drying out, it should last forever if oiled every season.

“O ring” I’m refering to the one which seals the hose to the pump. It is light blue in color.
After my first use I damaged the first O ring. From the manufacturer it comes lubed. I thought this would be enough but I was wrong. I started lubing every use but the O ring lasted a couple of times then finally failed.
Replaced it with the spare that comes with stove and this lasted about 10 uses lubing every time.
Please note, MEC does not stock a replacement for this particular O ring. This O ring is not in the repair kit sold by MEC. Check for yourselves, remember the O ring is light blue not dark blue. Yes, they are different.

On approximately my fifth use I started to have flame issues.
Stove would constantly flame out when simmering.
On medium flame the flame would Buffet (beat repeatedly).
I tried the cleaning tool, then relight the stove, but still the same problems.
I took the stove apart, and noticed the cleaning needle was not there. Nothing was attached to magnetic cylinder inside the stove. I cleaned it manually with limited success.

What I love about this stove
The pump design, Particularly after freezing my thumbs off with the Coleman.
The hose detaches from the pump rather than the stove. I pack the stove inside my pot so it is always protected.
The simmer control valve is away from stove, no more burnt hands.

But I digress, I had to return it MEC. Just too many issues that I do not want to deal with in the back country.
You should carry a pack of 20 O rings in your back pocket and a large tube of lube.

If they change the O ring I will definitely try again. I did fix my peak 1 with a Dremel and a hose clamp.
